Pencils HB to 8B on white paper.
21 x 27 cm

I had doubts until the end about the likeness. Now I'm satisfied enough. I probably chose a reference photo difficult to catch for me.
What do you think about? Any critique is well accepted!

You show as a powerful, determined, slightly cold person. She's a winner but you wouldn't want an argument with her! (That's just what I see)

I think you have done a great job. Her physical beauty is elusive and very few can capture!

It's a very striking portrait.  Even better than the reference in my opinion.  It is because your bold lines really give her a piercing look.  And with your light values, she practically glows.  I'm not telling you anything you don't know of course, but I believe that impression of a person is more important than the individual parts.  Cheers!  Thumbs Up

Bellissima Eva Green (la ricordo molto bene in "The Dreamers" di Bertolucci) e bellissimo il ritratto da te fatto.

Hai saputo bene dove esser stato approssimativo nelle linee e dove invece aver lavorato bene nei dettagli.

Figurati. A me colpì molto quel film.
C'era un po' tutto dentro: Giovinezza, ideali, sesso, rivoluzione ecc... raccontate con inquadrature magistrali e recitate da un cast da paura.

She is not easy to draw, she is very beautiful woman, but it's particular beauty and even rough beauty often, so probably those doubts in process happen when you try to keep balance between "her eyes should burn you" and "she still should save her feminine attraction". You caught and show her look perfectly, those huge eyes looking right into your soul! =)
Not as critique, but as opinion - reference is really difficult in general, because photo made with shallow depth of field, so focus and intensity of colours are changing right at her face, and it also made it not easy to catch with pencil, because pencil somehow "asks for sharpness" (oils or watercolours could do that effect of melting image naturally, but pencils not always friendly in this case).

Such a great commet. Eva Green fascinates me, and this is a particular tough reference photo using an extremely difficult art medium to capture her. The artist has done a superb job.

Thank you! Yes, it's a great job no matter what Nod And there are no simple portraits in Simone's gallery in general. It's always various materials, experimenting, trying some new ways of expression, creative vision and passing the creation process "through" author's feelings :) (Smile)

I would like to thank you for this wonderful and so accurate comment and for the time you spent in.
I'm totally agree with you. You caught perfectly the nature of my doubts and have beautifully described them. So, since you see so well in my soul, I'm grateful for the appreciation to the drawing and especially for the look and her eyes!
And I'm very grateful as well, for the more technique second part. You're right also when you say that pencil are not so friendly sometimes, as well in this case.
I'm not a photographer, maybe you are, it's right? I'm not sure to understand rightly all things about depth of field and intensinty of colours changing right at her face... I'm interested to such things, if you would like to explain... Thanks again!

You are very welcome! Hug I was little bit worry about if I sound somehow arrogantly (I didn't mean to).
Depth of field is the distance captured in your picture, where all objects shown detailed. If you look at Eva's photo (reference), it is seen that for example her right eye, which is closer to the viewer, is detailed, when her left eye is not in focus and it also has less intensity; closer to the viewer her thinnest hair could be seen, and "behind" her face they are far not in focus. Degree of clarity changes gradually. Presumably it starts to change somewhere at her nose, as the result, the bridge of her nose doesn't have enough contrast, although her nostril is seen good.
When you look at photography, such changing of
clarity perceives normal as optical effect, but in life our eyes don't see things like this, we can see face whole in focus or whole blured for some reason. And when you draw and look at the face you draw, your eyes somehow intuitively want to see that face how they are used to see - they want it to be focused, but same time you catch the difference with reference. That can be exactly the reason why at some point you feel not really satisfied with the result, and why I agreed with you that the reference is really difficult. Why for pencil especially - because for example if you do simillar work with oils, you start with less intensity of colours and big shapes, then specify it to the details. Pencil is much more demanding from the beginning.
Sorry for that "novel", but maybe it will help somehow =)

Thank you again, you are also a great Novelist! Don't worry, you don't sound arrogantly at all. I thank you again because I've learn new stuff and this could be very useful :shakefist:. You've explained very very well. I know what you say about the nose... When I was drawing I realized that the totally absence of the bridge of her nose. In a first time I've tried to reproduce exactly that absence with smothness, but the result was far from the reference. In addiction I lost the lookness. So, I've done a thing that I usually don't: I've drawn what I know and not what I see. I know where is the the bridge of her nose, stidying also from other refernce, and I'drawn it, hoping to match better the likeness.
In the end... Thank you again!!!
